Castle closed to visitors at present, but the views from the castle over the River Tweed, and the views of the castle on the cliff, as seen from the river or the old railway track path are breathtaking. We did ask if the castle was haunted and although we were told it was, we both slept like a baby in the super comfy 4 poster bed and never heard a thing apart from the creaking floor boards when getting up for the toilet during the night Amazing quirky old style accomodation that you can only dream of staying in so would definitely recommend and can't wait to go back one day.
The bedding is so comfortable and there are fires in the drawing room and bedroom that we lit and kept going. We lit both the bedroom and lounge fires (everything supplied for you) then headed out in the cold for a walk around the grounds before returning to a cozy room. Please do not hesitate to book this.
Dinner was offered but we decided not to ans brought our own food. well preserved heritage and stunning restoration and history on upper floors, short walk from town ,worth the effort.

The oldest part of the castle is a tower house erected in the late 14th century. Extra heating was provided in the 2 rooms to keep it nice and cosy.
