I love when I witness fabulous art, it is divine. An Analysis of Shaun Tan's Luminous Work of Art.

What separates this book from others of the same genre is Shaun Tan's wholly idiosyncratic artwork.

It is such a lovely book.
One of the most vibrant and vivid pictures I have ever looked at appears below to describe how wonderful things pass us by when we’re overcome with grief or sadness. But, the little red leaf - that can be found only with difficulty - tells us a different tale.

Refresh and try again. I loved the page that goes, "Sometimes you wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait but nothing ever happens" and the eight pictures zoom out the picture of the main character writing on the the floor counting days. Do you mean he hasn’t received enough awards as his talent warrants? Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. Shaun Tan's illustrations are remarkable for the way they combine and react upon each other. Quite possibly the most beautiful picturebook I've ever read. The Red Tree (2001), written and illustrated by Shaun Tan, is a picture book that presents a fragmented journey through a dark world.

The books I have read I love for their exquisite attention to detail and beautiful art, and also the slightly strange, X-files bent.
I'm 13, but this picture book absolutely knocked me off my feet. Simple story about things that do happen and how at the end might end up totally different. I tend to hold my hand on each page to prevent them from doing this. Shaun Tan's "The Red Tree" is a sparely scripted book with incredible paintings telling the story of depression and how a person copes with it, from waking up and struggling to get out of bed, to finding the energy to walk to work as well as constantly battling the negative thoughts in your head. Many children in their life will ‘sometimes’ feel down, purposeless and confused about the life they lead. The blurb at the back sets the tone for the thought provoking read: 'Sometimes the day begins with nothing to … The meaning is subtle and easy to miss, but significant. Two words accompany this image: ‘Nobody understands’ I think this haunting illustration perfectly sums up how one can feel so isolated and closed off from the world in times of stress. One for all ages and all walks of life. Thanks a million for the recommendation! This was such an interesting read, and although one could argue it is rather dispiriting, I think it sends such an important message to the reader that it is really ok to not be ok. I wish there had been picture books like this years ago; it doesn’t at all underestimate children. This shows that hopefully, it will always lift and move away. Would you agree that Shaun Tan’s talents don’t get the recognition they deserve? It has. The image below shows the sudden weight that depression could bring on a person ‘Darkness overcomes you.’ is the line describing the image. It is bleak for some time, but there is a break in the stifling clouds.

It actually reminded me a lot of. Children's author John Marsden has described it thus, 'It is the best picture book I have seen. The book is bleak but has a hopeful ending which I felt was important to include.

Shaun Tan's The Red Tree almost defies any rational classification. I completely disagree that this book is about manic depression, which is Manny's take. I think his work should be pride of place in most bookshops, which I think it isn’t. This book was on the hold shelf at work, waiting for a student to pick up. The powerful illustrations somehow reminded me of my old art lessons, when my teacher was teaching me about 'Salvador Dali Art On Surrealism'.

But Tan demonstrates that amongst these despairing thoughts that are so human and relevant to many of us, the red tree signifies that despite this, there is always hope.

It's a children's book, but it's probably one of the deeper children's books you're likely to come across. This picture book is for readers of all ages and I’ve never seen anything quite like it. This could also make a wonderful gift book for older children, young adults, and adults going through a difficult emotional time, especially those suffering with depression or facing a challenge that seems overwhelming. Books With a Goodreads Average Rating of 4.5 or higher and With At Least 100 Ratings. In my opinion this book deals with the topic of depression and sadness in children. The girl holds in her hands a large dice that has what appears to be six on each side. The red leaf's appearance makes a lie of the false notion that terrible fates are inevitable. Each image from then on is describing the emotions one feels when they are overwhelmed and lost with sadness. It is bleak for some time, but there is a break in the stifling clouds.

Scale and perspective are used to excellent effect in the book.

That's because Shaun Tan has created a masterpiece.' I use the book as a shared reading text for older students 9 - 14 years of age. The artwork in the story is a thing to behold. I would say that the book is targeted at an older audience but if you feel she may identify with the main character, th. I have looked many times at this book and I always find something new, there are literally hundreds of shapes and hidden signs interlocked in the background and in other objects. It didn’t really strike me as something that would cheer readers up in a big way, but the empathy expressed and the light at the end of the tunnel philosophy might be a comfort to some. To see what your friends thought of this book, That is up to you as a parent.

This story is controversial because it’s about sadness. It's so true to life and deeply meaningful.
