It is a wonderfully entertaining depiction of decadence in a very out-of-the-way place (given that WWII was raging over much of the planet), but I suspect the original print is more dazzling than this DVD. This seems like a fairly accurate account, with a few amalgams of prior or even subsequent events. It grows a range of grape varieties that are common on Long Island including Merlot, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as the more unusual Trebbiano and Pinot Noir.
