The writer has researched well her historical material about British village life while usefully using her deep knowledge of the Austen novels. Even through all of this chaos, the people of Chawton decide to group together to save Jane Austen’s family’s estate and turn it into a haven honouring the late author. This is a lovely, gently and slow paced tale with lots of references to Jane Austen’s books and characters. The village of Chawton has a deep history with Jane Austen, the cottage that she lived in and wrote her famous novels sittings in the village.

The parts that I loved, charmed and delighted me; while the parts that I didn’t, well, they kind of bored me. It begins by introducing the characters and their varying backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common and that’s a love for the author, Jane Austen and her works. Not the kind of book I’m usually drawn to, but to my surprise, I loved the characters and how th story evolved. But as much as it amused him, the book also confused him.
